Recognizing Failed Glass Units

These photos show what happens when the seal on a double-pane window fails. The space between the glass panes is filled with argon gas and sealed to provide insulation. When that seal breaks, moisture gets in and you see that permanent fog or haze that won't wipe away.

Common signs of seal failure:

• Fog or condensation between the glass panes
• Hazy or cloudy appearance that won't clean off
• Water droplets visible inside the window
• White mineral deposits or staining
• Distorted views through the glass
